MATTESON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A lawn mower is being listed as the probable cause of a pole barn fire on Sunday afternoon near Bronson.
Branch County Central Dispatch notified the Bronson Fire Department of the fire Sunday just before 2:30 p.m. at 903 West Shore Drive in Matteson Township.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the roof of the 24 foot by 36 foot pole barn.
The Colon and Sherwood Fire Departments both provided a tanker.
About 20,000 gallons of water were used to put the fire out.
Lifecare Ambulance and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
Bronson Fire Department officials say the lawn mower which was the probable cause of the fire was just returned to the pole barn around 10 minutes prior to the discovery of the blaze.
Fire crews were on the scene for about three hours. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. There was no dollar amount on the damage.
