Ivan Harold “Bud” Strauss, Jr, 75, of Quincy passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy with Pastor Gaylord VanAken officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Dayburg Cemetery at a later date.
He was born July 29, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio to Ivan Strauss, Sr. and Betty (Morrison) Strauss.
He was the oldest of five children, Kathy (Mitch) Mitchell, Sally Thorp, Bill Strauss and Tim Strauss.
Bud graduated from Quincy Community Schools in 1968. He attended Kellogg Community College for law enforcement.
He married Jeanette (Long) Strauss in 1970, and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Michael (Amanda) Strauss, Stacie (Kevin) Barker and Ben (Denise) Strauss; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In 1975, he and Jeanette moved to Bonita Springs, FL. He worked at several different jobs and then became a firefighter. This was his dream job, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become lieutenant. In 1990 he felt an urging from God to retire and move back to Michigan. He put his law enforcement classes to work and went to work for correctional facilities in Coldwater. He worked there until his retirement in 2013.
Bud had many hobbies including fishing and hunting of all kinds. He was a great family man. He loved sitting on the back porch having coffee and dessert with sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren and cousins. They would all be sharing stories of all their escapades and experiences. Bud was an avid gardener spending hours in the summer working in his garden then canning and freezing and giving away the excess in the fall.
Even though Bud isn’t among us here on Earth, we are comforted knowing Bud was a strong believer in Jesus Christ, so we are all comforted knowing he is alive and healthier than ever before in Heaven.
Memorial contributions are suggested to New Heart Ministries in Coldwater.
