COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The warming temperatures have pulled the frost out of the ground, which has prompted the Branch County Road Commission to announce seasonal weight restrictions will be lifted at 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 9.
These “frost laws” are implemented to protect local roads from damage during the freeze-thaw cycle, as thawing beneath the road surface can create a spongy subsoil vulnerable to cracking under heavy loads.
The current weight restrictions implemented in February on Branch County roads require normal legal loads to be reduced by 35% on paved roads and 25% on concrete roads for all non-exempt vehicles.
