HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale County man who initially fled to Kentucky to avoid arrest for sex crimes has been sentenced.
59-year-old Kevin Murphy, was sentenced last Friday, to three to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting two minors, ages 9 and 12, in Hillsdale County.
Murphy pleaded no contest on May 18 to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, resulting in the dismissal of a second identical count at sentencing.
Despite the dismissal, victim rights for both minor survivors will remain attached to his conviction. He was given credit for 132 days already served.
The charges against Murphy were initially filed by the Hillsdale County Prosecutor’s Office in October 2025, but he fled the state before he could be apprehended.
He was later located in Kentucky, arrested, and extradited back to Michigan by U.S. Marshals acting under Operation Survivor Justice.
This specialized initiative is a collaborative partnership involving the Michigan Attorney General’s office, local prosecutors, and federal marshals dedicated to tracking down and returning fugitives with outstanding sexual assault warrants.
