Kalamazoo, MI (WKZO) – Freshman Kyle Novak’s first career goal will be one he’ll never forget.
In just his fourth game as a Bronco, Novak scored the game winning goal with 3:08 left in overtime, as the Western Michigan University hockey team beat the Colorado College Tigers 3-2 in their first game in the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Frank Slubowski made 29 saves after allowing two first period goals to Colorado College to put the Broncos in an early deficit. However, WMU responded tailing back-to-back goals from Justin Kovacs and Jordan Oesterle to tie the game at two heading into the first intermission.
The second and third periods saw lots of action but neither team was able to put the puck in the net.
