Corey Davis became the seventh Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year for the Western Michigan football program, becoming the seventh Bronco to earn the award.  No other MAC program has had more than five.

With Davis earning the award in 2013 and teammate Jaime Wilson earning it in 2012, WMU becomes the only program in MAC history to have the best freshman in the conference in back-to-back seasons twice.  Tim Lester and Robert Sanford earned the award in back-to-back seasons in 1996 and 1997, respectively.  Northern Illinois and Central Michigan are the only other programs to ever have back-to-back a MAC Freshman of the Year.

WMU MAC Freshmen of the Year

  • Kelly Spielmaker, TE (1983)
  • Brad Tayles, QB (1989)
  • Tim Lester, QB (1996)
  • Robert Sanford, RB (1997)
  • Tim Hiller, QB (2005)
  • Jaime Wilson, WR (2012)
  • Corey Davis, WR (2013)

"It is an honor to be recognized by the coaches in the conference and I thank them for voting me the freshman of the year.  We have two great quarterbacks that made our jobs as receivers much easier this season.  The coaching we received helped put us in position to be successful.  This is a blessing and I am very excited for what the future holds," commented Davis.

As a true freshman, Davis started in all 11 games played in 2013.  He led all freshmen wide receivers in the FBS in receptions (67), receiving yards (941), TDs (6), receiving yards per game (85.5), and 100-yard receiving games (5).  Davis set WMU freshman records in receiving yards and 100-yard games, sharing the record with teammate Wilson for receptions.

For his efforts, Davis was also named All-MAC Second Team Offense, joining defensive lineman Travonte Boles as the senior earned All-MAC Second Team Defense.  The honor is the first of Boles' career.  He started all 12 games on the defensive line and ranked fifth on the team with 60 tackles.  He had 5.0 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, his second career interception, one pass break up and a blocked kick against Central Michigan.

Donald Celiscar also earned All-MAC for the first time in his career, as the junior cornerback was named All-MAC Third Team Defense.  Celiscar shared the team lead with three interceptions and ranked second with nine pass break ups.  His 12 passes defended was second to only Ronald Zamort's 18, which ranks fifth in the nation.  Celiscar racked up 60 tackles (34 solo) in 2013, including 1.5 tackles for loss.  He also added a spark on special teams, leading the team with a 21.8-yard average on 13 kick returns.
