COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (WKZO) -- Western Michigan hockey’s Shane Berschbach has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Month after posting 15 points and helping WMU to a 5-3-2 record in November.

This is the first monthy honor for Berschbach and the first monthly award given to a Bronco since Chase Balisy was named CCHA Freshman of the Month in 2011.

The senior assistant captain tallied multiple points in four of the 10 games in the month, including two three-point games in wins over Colorado College and Michigan State. Berschbach also finished the month with a +8 plus/minus rating. He was named NCHC Player of the Week for his performance in WMU’s series sweep of MIchigan State after recording a goal and three assists on the weekend.
So far this season he has 19 points overall to lead the Broncos and is averaging 1.35 points per game after averaging 1.50 during the month of November. His production has also helped his linemates Justin Kovacs and Josh Pitt already reach career-best point totals. Kovacs is second on the team with career highs in points with 14, goals with five and assists with nine. Pitt has matched his freshman-year numbers with three goals and six assists in just 14 games this season.
Berschbach also sits just two points shy off becoming the 53rd Bronco to reach 100 points in his career.

The Broncos host North Dakota on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. this weekend. Friday’s game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, while Saturday’s game is available on Bronco Insider.
