KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- For the first time since 2005, the final home game of a football season pits Western Michigan against Central Michigan. It is the annual Battle for the Cannon.
WMU is posting three videos throughout the remainder of the week to hype its annual rivalry game against CMU. The videos showcase not only members of the football team but also student-athletes from across WMU Athletics letting fellow students know the importance of this game and this rivalry.
The game is this Saturday, 12 p.m., but before students file into Waldo Stadium, they will receive a special guest visitor to the student tailgate in Lot 105. Head coach P.J. Fleck will address the student community at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, giving them his pre-game speech.
The first 1,000 students to get to Waldo Stadium will receive free hot dogs as well as an official football bandana/scarf.
Students will see reminders of this Saturday's game throughout campus starting on Wednesday as the videos will be on display on EduCable and signage will be in and aroung the Bernhard Center all week.
There is also a social media component to this campaign. Follow @WMU_Football and watch for each video release. Retweet using the hash tag #BeatCMU. Here's the first installment.
Be There for the Battle.
