DeKalb, IL – Northern Illinois QB Chandler Harish rushed for a career high 229 yards and threw for another 207 as the Huskies defeated the Broncos 51-22 Saturday Afternoon.
Chandler had runs of 45, 51, and 40 yards in the 3rd quarter as Northern Illinois outscored the Broncos 24-0 in the 3rd to pull ahead.
The Huskies outrushed the Broncos 494-102 and scored 5 touchdowns on the ground, 3 from Jasmin Hopkins and 2 from Akeem Daniels.
Jordan White finished with 12 receptions for 98 yards, passing Greg Jennings for 2nd place all time on the Broncos career receptions list. This was White’s 5th straight game with 10 or catches and the 6th time he’s had double figures in 2011
Broncos quarterback Alex Carder finished 25 for 43 for 194 yards and 1 touchdown and an interception.
WMU opened to a quick 6-0 lead after back to back field goals. Broncos kicker John Potter first field goald went for 45 yards, his career long. Potter then added a 30 yarder with 2:20 left in the 1st quarter
After a Huskies touchdown the Broncos regained the lead with a safety as the Huskies snapped punt bounced off one of the up backs causing a fumble. Punter Ryan Neir recovered the ball but was tackled in the end zone by Johnnie Simon for 2 points and a Bronco 8-7 lead.
During the ensuing drive, Alex Carder threw for his lone touchdown to Chleb Ravenell, adding to the Broncos lead 15-7
That was the last time the Broncos would score for almost 2 quarters as the Huskies added 44 answered points before the Broncos were able to add a late touchdown with 6:33 left in the 4th quarter, Tyler VanTubbergen to Antoin Schriven from 2 yards out.
GAME NOTES: Tyler VanTubbergan replaced Alex Carder in the 4th quarter and had 39 yards passing…Tevin Drake lead the Broncos in rushing with 39 yards...The 694 total yards for Northern Illinois, was the most any MAC team had put up so far this year…John Potter Extended his consecutive PAT streak, now up to 98. He also had a tackle, increasing his school record of 33 tackles for a kicker…Northern Illinois Kicker Matt Sims scored 15 points for the Huskies including 3 field goals…Attendance for the game was announced at 20,722…The Broncos next game will be against Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti on Saturday October 22 at 1pm.
