Toledo, OH (WKZO) – A strong start to the 2nd half put the Toledo Rockets up 12 points, and despite a late run which closed the Broncos gap to 1, the Western Michigan men’s basketball team was unable to overcome the deficit, as they were defeated Saturday night by the Rockets 83-74.
Flenard Whitfield topped the scoring charts for the Broncos with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Matt Stainbrook added 14.
WMU trailed by only 3 points at halftime, but the Rockets came out of the break on fire, scoring 15 of the first 21 points in the 2nd half to extend their lead to 12. The Broncos responded cutting the lead to 1 with 3:46 left after Demetrius Ward drilled a 3 pointer.
