CELEBRITY SPELLERS FOR SUMMER THEATRE MUSICAL
COLDWATER – Tibbits Summer Theatre will feature some familiar local faces during its upcoming musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” as each performance includes guest spellers as well as randomly chosen audience members to participate on stage in the spelling bee.
The musical centers around quirky teens competing in a spelling bee run by even quirkier adults where they learn winning isn’t everything and “losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.” Audience participation adds a spontaneous portion to each performance.
The local celebrity spellers for the first week will be: Jim Whelan, News Director for WTVB-AM (Aug 5, 2 pm); Judy Krzeminski, Executive Director of Branch County United Way (Aug. 5, 8pm); Lisa Vickers, Advertising Manager for The Daily Reporter (Aug. 6, 8 pm); and Mary Gail Stevens, Registered Nurse at Community Health Center (Aug. 7, 8 pm). For the second week local spellers will be: Karen Hargreave, Mayor of the Village of Quincy (Aug. 11, 2 pm); Jeff Gallup, Bronson High School Football Coach and teacher (Aug. 12, 8 pm); Terry Wilber, Manager of Branch County Abstract (Aug. 13, 8 pm); and Bill Milnes, Principal of Coldwater High School (Aug. 14, 8 pm).
The guests and the randomly chosen spellers will not have to sing and dance, but they will be expected to do their best spelling the words they are given; whatever those words happen to be. In the Broadway production, Julie Andrews was chosen as a guest speller and missed spelling supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” is generously sponsored by Wal Mart Distribution #6043 and Wal Mart Transportation #6843. Tibbits Summer Theatre’s 2010 season is also presented with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
