August 23, 2011-Coldwater, Michigan- The Community Health Center of Branch County recently held their 14th annual Community Fest at the CHC Community Care andConferenceCenter,370 E. Chicago St.,Coldwater,MI49036 (located behind Pizza Hut) on August 20, 2011 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Community Fest is an annual event that provides participants with information on health and safety. In addition, Community Fest also featured several free health screenings as well as activities for kids.
Over 450 people came to Community Fest with CHC Dietary serving 482 people lunch in a two hour span. Community Fest featured 46 exhibitors that were on hand to give information on a variety of topics. Many of the exhibitors had door prizes including the CHC Clinics giving away six children bikes. CHC also offered a chance for participants to get health screenings including Prostate, Cholesterol, Child Immunizations, Foot Checks, Peripheral Arterial Disease, and Pulmonary Function Tests. Holicki Optical gave participants free eye exams. For the kids, CHC had a kids’ corner that included a place to color and also had a station set up to show kids the importance of good hand washing. Also for the kids, Steve Franks State Farm agent sponsored and held a bike rodeo that helped kids understand bike safety. With the bike rodeo, Borgess and CHC fitted and gave away bike helmets to children. The Coldwater Fire Department had one of their fire trucks on site and taught kids about the features of the truck and how they help with emergencies. The Quincy Fire Department manned the Smokehouse, which taught kids what to do in case of a fire by simulating a fire in the house. The Branch County Sherriff’s Department brought a seatbelt simulator to show what the impact would be during a 5 mph crash and the K-9 dog stopped by for a visit. I.D. kits were also handed out by the Sherriff’s Department. CHC had a kids’ tent set up outside with games and a blow-up obstacle course. Fitness classes were offered throughout the day including Tai-Chi taught by Linda Ives, Zumba and Pilates brought to you by FitZone, and Yoga.
The Community Fest presenting sponsor was PNC Bank. Borgess Health System sponsored the Cholesterol/Prostate Screening and lunch with funding from Health Resource Service Administration Outreach Grant #DO4RH12760. Borgess Trauma Services sponsored the bike helmets. Other community sponsors include McDonalds and Pepsi. CHC is very appreciative of the support of these sponsors, who made Community Fest so successful..
