Posted by Ken Delaney on

A memorial service will be held Thursday for Gerald Quimby, a man everyone in Quincy knew.  Following a suggestion someone posted on Facebook, everyone should wear hunter's orange to the service.

Gerald E. Quimby, 87, of Quincy, passed away Tuesday (4-24-2012) at the Laurels of Coldwater.

Born December 21, 1924, in Quincy, he was the son of Orvil and Neva (Williams) Quimby. He attended the Quincy United Methodist Church as a child, and was a huge Quincy athletic supporter, never missing a home game. He enjoyed splitting wood and helped keep the village of Quincy clean by picking up trash and pop cans.

Survivors include one sister, Bernadine Grinnell of Jackson one brother, Lloyd (Vivian) Quimby of Coldwater, niece, Dee Ann (Rex) Monroe of Quincy and their children, Chris (Elizabeth) Monroe of Shelby Township, and Amber Monroe of Bloomington, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters (Mildred Phillips, Caryl Stockwell & Dorothy Quimby), and three brothers and a sister-in-law (Darrell, Weldon & Frank (Elaine) Quimby).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Quincy, with Pastor Loree Grinnell officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Gerald E. Quimby Memorial Scholarship Fund (for Quincy graduates pursuing environmental careers).
