Coldwater, Mich. – On Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 from 10am till 2pm, Consumers Credit Union’s Coldwater office will be having a Youth Day to celebrate its younger members and children in the community while promoting fire safety and safe bicycling habits. The Coldwater office is conveniently located at 829 East Chicago Street.
During Youth Day, fire safety experts E.S.C.A.P.E. will be onsite with the ‘smoke trailer’ along with the Quincy Fire Department to help teach children how to react if ever involved in a fire emergency. Jake the Fire Safety Dog will also be present to greet and mingle with participants. Fun games and refreshments will be provided.
Courtney Rus, Coldwater Assistant Office Manager, says, “I believe it is important to educate our children about fire safety starting at a young age so they can be prepared in the event of a real fire emergency. E.S.C.A.P.E. provides an environment conducive for the children remembering the steps to take if they are ever involved in a fire.”
FREE bike helmets will also be given away during Youth Day in a variety of colors and sizes for members under the age of 18* – compliments of AAA. Representatives from AAA will be on-hand to assist kids and teens with their helmet fitting and to provide safety tips for bicycling.
Jill Carroll, Group Relationship Manager of AAA-Michigan, speaks on the importance of events like these, “Unfortunately, too many children are injured each year while riding their bikes. Experts estimate that 85 percent of all head or brain injuries could be avoided if cyclists wore helmets correctly.”
The helmet give away is reserved for members of Consumers Credit Union under the age of 18. Children and teens must be present to receive a helmet and helmets will only be given away while supplies last.
