Community Health Center Seeking More Volunteers

Posted by Ken Delaney on

If you’re a motivated person eager to help the community, strive to give back, or are passionate about devoting your spare time to a great cause, then becoming a volunteer at CHC may be perfect for you. The Community Health Center of Branch County (CHC) is currently in need of volunteers to assist with various departments.  One person can make a difference, and CHC is focused on making a difference in the community.

Some of the departments looking for volunteers include the CHC Gift Shop, Cafeteria, Information Desk, and substitutes for the CHC Cancer Center.  Other departments also looking for volunteers include the Callback Department, the Union City CHC Clinic, CHC Facility Operations, Cafeteria, and the Magazine Cart.  All shifts are morning or afternoon with negotiable schedules, with the exception of Dietary who is seeking volunteers for evening shifts from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Volunteering is not only about giving, however.  CHC values its volunteers and honors them each year with a dinner for a them and a guest at which time pins are given for achieving certain levels of volunteer hours.  Both the chairman of the CHC Board of Trustees and the CHC CEO/President attend and take part in the program.  Door prizes are donated by hospital departments and staff.  Volunteers are invited to attend the CHC Volunteers general meetings that include a free luncheon in March, April, May, September, October, and December.  Volunteers also receive a free meal when they work a full shift.  Volunteer jackets are supplied free of charge.  Another benefit of volunteering is socialization.  Not only do volunteers get to know hospital staff members, but many new friends are made by working with other volunteers.

The volunteer hours for positions may vary, as well as the schedules.  Volunteer applicants will usually be asked to volunteer for a minimum of three hours per shift.  The positions may require walking, standing, telephone usage, and proper professional etiquette while on duty.  Requirements to be a volunteer at CHC include annual education, a TB test, reference checks and a criminal background check.  These requirements must be completed before the volunteer can begin.

It takes an extra special person to volunteer in any area at CHC.  If you think that you would be the perfect fit to help at CHC and are willing to volunteer in the mornings, afternoons, or substitute, an application can be completed online at www.chcbc.com or you can call the CHC Volunteer Services Department at 517.279.5008 to get further information.
