COLDWATER – Shopping local and shopping on line, two seemingly conflicting catch phrases this season can actually work well together and are being promoted by Tibbits Opera House through Good Shop and through a Cyber Monday special offer.
In late November 2005, the New York Times reported that "The name Cyber Monday grew out of the observation that millions of otherwise productive working Americans, fresh off a Thanksgiving weekend of window shopping, were returning to high-speed Internet connections at work Monday and buying what they liked." In less than a decade the phrase “Cyber Monday” has become a part of our holiday shopping lingo.
Through Good Shop, shoppers can make their Cyber Monday on line purchases work to benefit Tibbits locally without costing anything more. GoodShop.com works with more than 3,000 top online retailers including Toys “R” Us, Target, Best Buy, Apple, Sephora, and Macy’s among others. The shopping experience and prices are the same as going to the retailer directly, but each time someone shops at one of these stores via GoodShop, a percentage of what is spent goes back to a favorite charity or school. Equally as exciting, GoodShop.com offers over 100,000 money-saving coupons and free shipping offers. So, users help a cause, like Tibbits, but also save money while doing so. Tibbits has already earned over $130 this year from GoodShop and the companion GoodSearch programs.
Tibbits will also be offering its own Cyber Monday specials. Details of the special offer will be launched to Tibbits e-mail subscribers on Monday, November 28, 2011 offering discounts on show packages as well as gift certificates. “Tibbits has always sold gift certificates and packages as Christmas gifts,” stated Executive Director Christine Delaney. “It’s the season when shoppers struggle to find that special gift, while still supporting their local businesses, while saving money and also not wasting precious time. Now they can do all of those things by giving the gift of theatre.”
Tibbits e-mail subscribers will find a special link in their inbox on Monday morning. The link will direct them to the discounts available. For those not already receiving Tibbits e-mails, they can join the Tibbits e-mail list atwww.Tibbits.org by clicking on the “News” link or by calling the Tibbits office on Monday, November 28 at 517-278-6029.
