GULL LAKE -- Yesterday morning’s slushy weather may have contributed to a fatal car/pedestrian accident in Ross Township.

It happened in the dark around 6:30 near the intersection of M-89 and 38th Street.  67-year-old Frank Croston was on a golf outing with a church group from Indiana staying at the Gull Lake Inn. Kalamazoo County Deputies say he was trying to cross the street to get a coffee at a gas station when he was struck.

Deputies say Croston was wearing a dark running suit at an unlit section of roadway where the speed limit is 55.  Visibility was limited because of the falling precipitation.

The driver of the Pick-up that struck him has not been charged or cited, and probably won’t be, but the investigation remains open.
