WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- FDA Officials say they need more resources to prevent food contamination issues, like the major egg recall currently underway. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg says they are committing their resources to discovering the cause of the salmonella outbreak.
Over half a billion eggs have been recalled by two Iowa egg producers, and more than 13-hundred people have gotten sick in 17 states. Michigan produces most of its own eggs, and so far there have been no illnesses reported in the state from tainted eggs.
They say if you are worried, you can keep your sunny side up, just make sure they aren’t runny, and cooked through. That will kill the salmonella.
