PENTWATER -- If a developer had a $3-billion construction project that would create hundreds of jobs, most communities would bend over backwards to be accommodating. But that’s not the case in the lakeshore communities from Pentwater to Ludington.
They call plans for a huge wind turbine farm on 100 square miles of Lake Michigan, “the Mistake in the Lake”, and the developer, Skandia is now revising and altering their plans to build larger windmills further out in the lake.
The vested interests on shore are all in tourism, and they say they don’t want their view ruined, and their livelihoods threatened. Skandia has to locate the turbines where the wind is the best for commercial production of electricity.
