It could have been much worse in Branch County’s Bethel Township, where seven Amish children were injured yesterday afternoon when their buggy was rear-ended by a pickup truck. Sheriff’s deputies say the buggy was totaled as the collision pushed it off the road into a ditch. 3 of the youth who ranged in age from eight to 14-years old were ejected from the buggy but none suffered any non-life threatening injuries with the worst of it’s a couple of broken bones.
The children were returning home from school when the pickup struck the buggy on Block road north of Pearl road. The sheriff’s department says 53-year old Brian Wolf of Coldwater, the pickup driver, wasn’t injured, but he was issued a citation for failing to stop in a sure clear distance. All of the children were taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment following the accident that occurred around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. Deputies were assisted on scene by LifeCare Ambulance and the Bronson Fire Department.
