You’ve heard a lot about the on-going meth problem in Branch County with an increase in arrests. But it’s actually worse than it seems, in part, because law enforcement doesn’t have enough cops on the job to make more busts. That’s the word from the State Police at the Coldwater Post. Lieutenant Al Koeningsnect addressed the situation at yesterday’s Coldwater Rotary Club luncheon.
Also speaking to the Club yesterday was Kim Palchak with STARS, Substance Treatment and Referral Service, and she said over the last six months to a year, her program has noticed a difference among the teenagers coming in for treatment. According to Palchak, kids who are being arrested for the first time, for example minors in possession, are already in need of treatment because they’re not just using alcohol.
