COLDWATER (WTVB) - Nearly one in four registered voters in Branch County went to the polls two years ago for the August primary elections. It’s tough to gauge what the turnout will be for next Tuesday’s 2010 primary. This time around the positions of Sheriff and Prosecutor aren’t on the ballot and there’s no opposition for first term GOP House Representative Ken Kurtz.
However, it’s looking like a tight race for the republican seventh district Congressional nomination. There is also the gubernatorial primary, and two seats on the Branch County Board of Commissioners will be decided with no democrats running in the sixth and seventh districts leaving it up to the Republicans to battle for the seats in the sixth where incumbent Bill Chinery is being challenged by Linda Fronczack. In the seventh district, Lindy Cox, Randall Hazelbaker, and Lance Houk are vying to replace Ted Gordon, who isn’t seeking re-election.
Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is predicting a 23% turnout on Tuesday, the same percentage that voted in Branch County two years ago.
