DETROIT (WKZO) -- Detroit’s Regional transit system has refused to carry advertisements that call on Muslims to defect from their religion. The Ads are being funded by a conservative group called the Freedom Defense Initiative, which has funded similar ads on busses in New York. They are calling the denial a violation of their first amendment rights.

Dawud Walid with the Council on American Islamic relations is defending the decision, calling the ads offensive. Lawyers for the Conservative group claim the SMART System has posted ads promoting atheism and charges a double standard is in place.
