COLDWATER (WTVB) - Branch County Commissioners yesterday got a lesson on the merits of asphalt vs. concrete as the county gets ready to re-do the parking lot at the courthouse. The Board agreed to go with the concrete fixup at a cost of 80-thousand dollars.
County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board the cost of asphalt has risen due to increased in petroleum costs over the years. Ten years ago, or five years ago, Norman said the county wouldn’t have given consideration to going the concrete route because of the difference in costs.
Commissioners were also told that maintenance costs average out to be five times higher for asphalt than concrete. The Branch County Library will be contributing 30-thousand dollars to the project since it will include the parking spaces on the east side of the library.
