CHICAGO (WKZO) -- Biologist David Lodge told an Illinois Judge yesterday that he believes the Asian Carp DNA found beyond the locks and close to Lake Michigan had to come from live fish, because the strands cannot survive long alone in that water. That means the peril to Lake Michigan is great.

It came in the first day of testimony in a lawsuit seeking an injunction to stop the carp in its tracks. Five states—led by Michigan—are asking a judge to close Chicago area shipping locks to prevent Asian carp from getting into the Great Lakes.

However the barge industry and others say closing the locks in the Chicago area would hurt their businesses.
