COLDWATER (WTVB) - Some really ducky money for hospice services at the Community Health Center of Branch County. Through the hard work and generous support from the community, C-H-C’s Great Hospice Duck Race Committee recently presented Hospice Services with a check for $31,000. Each year the Committee organizes the annual Duck Race held in June with the goal of raising awareness and money for hospice programs and services.
The fundraising effort is made possible only through the effort of many volunteers, as well as hundreds of sponsors and donors from the community. Hospice has become important to many families in Branch County when it comes time to make the tough decisions regarding end-of-life care. A team of caregivers works with the patient and family to develop a plan of care that eases the patient's physical and emotional pain, and helps everyone involved through this difficult process.
Most importantly, hospice provides care for patients regardless of their ability to pay. This is why memorials and fundraisers such as the Great Hospice Duck Race are so important. The Duck Race is CHC Hospice Service’s only major fundraiser for the year. Hospice services are covered by Medicare, the majority of Medicaid programs, and some private insurance companies and managed care plans. Hospice also relies on grants and community donations to support services for patients with little or no insurance.
