COLDWATER (WTVB) - We have heard from several people who are wondering why their electric bills are so high right now, especially compared to last year. So we asked Judy Palnau at the Michigan Public Service Commission and she had a ready answer in two words - .hot temperatures. She says she has been getting a lot of calls about it.

Air Conditioners have been running a lot, and so have fans and other cooling devices, especially compared to last summer, in Palnau’s words, the summer that never was. Apparently a lot of people have forgot it was exceptionally cool last summer, so what you’re comparing bills, year to year, 2009 to 2010, there will be, in many cases, a dramatic difference.

If global warming means we can expect more summers just like this one, maybe it will also mean warmer winters and it will all even out in the end, at least on your annual energy costs.
