COLDWATER (WTVB) - Motorists around Branch County continue to see fewer police squad cars on the roads with a resulting drop in the number of tickets being written. The Sheriff’s Department secondary road patrol budget is expected to cut by the state by 50-thousand dollars for 2011.

Sheriff Warren Cannon yesterday told the Board of Commissioner’s Sheriff and Public Safety committee there are two thousand fewer officers around Michigan since when the secondary road patrol program was started. That’s when the county received 124-thousand dollars from Lansing. Next year, it will be rolled back to 74-thousand.

It’s the classic Catch-22 situation with fewer tickets and that means less revenue headed to the State Capital that could be returned to local agencies
