Thirteen was a lucky number for the Tigers yesterday afternoon. All 13 of their hits against the White Sox were singles and it allowed them to double up Chicago 6-to-3. It gave Detroit three straight wins over the White Sox to finish off the 4-game series and left second place Chicago six games behind the Central Division leading Twins.

Johnny Damon had a season-high 4 hits for the Tigers while Ryan Raburn and Jhonny Peralta had 2 rbi’s apiece. Rick Porcello pitched eight strong innings for Detroit, giving up all three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Porcello won his last four starts to improve to 9-and-11. The victory also boosted the Tigers above the .500 mark for the first time since July 31st.

Armando Galarraga and umpire Jim Joyce will be back together tonight. Galarraga will start for Detroit at home against Baltimore, while Joyce will be behind the plate. A blown call at first base by Joyce cost Galarraga a perfect game on June 2nd in Motown against the Indians. The Cubs were idle Thursday. They play tonight at Milwaukee.
