(Highland Park, MI) -- State Senator Bert Johnson is recovering following surgery after he injured his hand in a snowblower during an attack by a pit bull. The 37-year-old Highland Park Democrat said he was clearing the driveway of his home on Monday afternoon when the dog approached, then charged him. According to Johnson, he slipped as he tried to run from the pit bull and his left hand ended up in the snowblower, cutting his fingers and breaking five bones. He said he hopes to be back at work by the end of the week.
