Anaheim, CA (WKZO) – In his first career start as a Major League Pitcher, Tigers Southpaw Charlie Furbush allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in just under 5 innings, as the Tigers dropped the first of three against the Angels, 5-1.
Furbush had been pitching out of the bullpen since being called up to the big leagues in May, but after Phil Coke was pulled from the starting rotation, Furbush was the obvious pick to take his spot. The 25 year old finished Monday’s start with 5 strikeouts while only walking 1 batter.
Johnny Peralta led the Tigers bats with 2 hits including an RBI single in the 4th.
The Tigers resume action Tuesday Night as Justin Verlander looks for his league leading 12th win. Coverage beings on WKZO 590AM at 9:40pm with the first pitch scheduled for 10:05pm.
