Lawrence Frank appears to be the Piston’s choice for head coach to replace John Kuester, who was fired at the beginning of June shortly afterDetroit’s new owner Tom Gores took over control of the franchise.
Several sources are reporting that Detroit will strike a deal with Frank before the weekend is out. Frank was an assistant coach last season for the Celtics and before that was head coach for several years atNew Jersey.
Frank seems to have won the job over former Detroit assistant Mike Woodsen and ex-Piston’s center Bill Laimbeer.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant could soon become a teammate of New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams. With the NBA in a lockout, Bryant is reportedly in talks with a Turkish basketball club to play overseas.
It's the same team that recently signed Williams. Many players have looked to play overseas in an effort to stay active during the league's labor strife. The deals generally include an opt-out clause to return to the NBA once there is a new labor agreement.
