COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - An electrical inspector in the Branch County building department who’s worked for the county for a dozen years is going public with his concerns about the department. Doug Scott suggested to county commissioners yesterday that some of that issues that have kept the department in debt since 2006 may have not have been entirely legal.
He said Commissioners need to visit the Department and take a look at the records. Scott said he’s seen fees that were transferred from voided and cancelled permits, those monies transferred from one year to another, something he said was against their laws in the building trades and also doesn’t help the department’s bottom line.
Commissioners said they are continuing to closely monitor the department and are keeping all options open, including the possibility of outsourcing or turning to a private contractor as well as office consolidation
