QUINCY (WTVB) - State Police say a drunk driving accident early today in Southwest Michigan took the life of a Branch County man. Thirty-eight-year old Duane Varino of Quincy died when his pickup truck hit a tree head on after he veered off M-40 in Van Buren County just north of Gobles.
Troopers say it appears he fell asleep at the wheel. When police reached the crash site around 12:30 this morning and checked on Varino, he was found to be deceased at the scene. He was later pronounced dead at Bronson Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw.
Troopers say Varino was not wearing his seat belt and that alcohol was a factor in the accident.
