COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County Circuit Court today, a Burr Oak man accused in a stabbing incident last spring in Coldwater that nearly killed an Adrian teenager, learned his fate. Twenty-two-year old Christopher Hawk was sentenced by Judge Bill O’Grady to a minimum of 6 years, four months and a maximum of ten years in prison.
Hawk, who had been charged with attempted murder, reached a plea bargain with prosecutors and pled guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. The incident occurred on May 29th when Travis Hyder was stabbed three times outside a Morse Street Apartment.
Hyder had surgery but was released from the hospital in time for his graduation from Tecumseh high school. Authorities said the stabbing resulted from a disagreement over a cell phone the victim believed had been stolen from his girlfriend
