KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) - What will it mean for folks in Branch County and across Southwest Michigan if the U.S. Postal Service closes the processing center in Kalamazoo?

It would be part of the postal service’s effort to save three billion dollars a year. It would make “snail Mail” even slower. In most cases right now, first class mail is delivered between one and three days.

Spokesman Peter Hass says people are just mailing fewer things and the postal service has to look at ways to become more efficient and optimize their processing and distribution network. Hass says the USPS study of proposed closures and service changes will be completed by early 2012, followed by public hearings.
