COVERT --  The Palisades Nuclear Plant is generating electricity again after emergency repairs.  The reactor was shutdown last Friday after cooling water leaked from a faulty valve in sufficient quantity to exceed technical standards.

Repair crews spent the weekend replacing and testing the valve and operations resumed Tuesday.   Officials said it was all contained and the public was never in danger.

Meanwhile, the Cook Nuclear Power Plant's Unit One is undergoing routine refueling.

Cook's Bill Downey said it is a process undertaken every 18 months.

About 1000 additional workers will be brought in to beef up Cook's staff while the maintenance and refueling take place.

Among other things, they'll be replacing some low pressure turbine rotors that were damaged in a 2009 incident.
