UNDATED --  A group of Michigan Scientists have sent a letter to the state’s Congressional Delegation telling them to support the EPA’s tougher mercury standards, for the sake of the health of their constituents.

117 Michigan academicians and scientists have signed the letter saying its been shown in study after study that tougher standards reduce the amount of mercury that goes into the lakes and wind up in its human population.

Dr. Nil Basu says its everywhere, in the water, in the ground and in the air, it gets into fish and winds up in most of the population.

Prof. Joel Bloom says Coal fired plants downwind from Michigan are the largest sources of mercury pollution.

The signers include professors from WMU and Kalamazoo College.

Neither of Michigan’s two Senators agree with the challenges to the EPA’s Clean Air Regulations.
