BLOOMINGDALE, MI (WKZO) -- Yesterday’s gusty weather is blamed for power outages that left thousands of homes and businesses in the dark. It’s also being blamed for one death. Sixty-nine-year-old Marilyn Remington was killed when a tree fell on her van. It happened just before 3PM on 38-1/2 mile road in Bloomingdale Township.
Van Buren County Deputies say that the large tree broke at the base of the trunk, and crashed right through her windshield as she traveled down the road. Rescue crews worked furiously to try and extricate her from the crumpled wreckage, but she did not survive.
The tree was 43 feet from the roadway, but with a trunk that was over 3-feet in diameter, it was large enough to crush the van when it blew over.
Most of the Power outages have been repaired, but Consumers Energy says a few may not have their power back until sometime tonight.
