DETROIT(WKZO) -- The owners of the Ambassador Bridge say they will undertake a drive for a statewide referendum in November which would require Michigan voters to approve any new bridge or tunnel to Canada.
The Maroun family has been charged with doing everything they can, including violating court orders, to protect their monopoly on bridge traffic to Canada. The Detroit International Bridge Company plans to fight Governor Rick Snyder's proposal for the state to construct a second bridge from Detroit to Windsor.
If the State Board of Canvassers approves the petition, backers would have to collect more than 300-thousand registered voter signatures to put the measure on the ballot.
