The opening round of the NFL Draft takes place tonight with the Lions having the 23rd selection. Mock drafts have shown a half dozen different possible choices awaiting Detroit and Lion’s general manager Martin Mayhew is keeping quiet since it’s a little strange for the team to be selecting so late after years of poor records and going early in the selection process.
Character might be the first trait the Lions are searching for in their draft picks considering last year’s top three selections had a total of four accusations by police in the off season of marijuana possession.
The Indianapolis Colts hold the number-one overall pick and have already confirmed they will select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. The Redskins traded up to nab the second pick and will likely take Baylor's Heisman Trophy-winning signal caller Robert Griffin the Third.
The draft will continue tomorrow with the second and third rounds and will conclude Saturday, when the final four rounds take place.
And Lion’s wide receiver Calvin Johnson is the Madden NFL 13 coverboy. "Megatron" beat out Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on the final day of online fan voting for the cover of the popular EA Sports video game. Nearly 20-million votes were cast since the 32-player, bracket-style tournament began.
