The Tigers let Seattle ace Felix Hernandez off the hook in the first inning when he walked the bases loaded and Detroit failed to score and the Mariners went on to a 9-to-1 victory at Comerica Park, where they will go for the 3-game sweep this afternoon.
The Tigers are slumping, dropping 5 of their last six after a 9-and-3 start. Last night’s Detroit starter, rookie Adam Wilk, fell to 0-and-3 after allowing 6 runs and 8 hits over just 2 plus innings. After the game, Wilk was sent down to Triple-A Toledo.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland said he didn’t know who would take Walk’s place in the rotation for next Monday’s game against Kansas City. A homer by Brennan Boesch last night in the third inning accounted for Detroit's lone run of the game.
Rick Porcello goes to the mound for the Tigers today and then Detroit heads to New York for 3-games this weekend against the Yankees.
The White Sox lost 5-to-4 at Oakland yesterday afternoon while the Cardinals beat the Cubs 5-to-1 at Wrigley Field.
