COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - More than likely, you’ve seen Republic Waste Services on the streets of Coldwater picking up recyclables, a number that has grown quite a bit over the years. But come May first, next Tuesday, Republic will take over the full routes and become the official garbage collector for the City.
Garbage customers in town won’t see much of a change other than pickup times may vary in the current routes. Republic is asking that toters are put out with the handles of the toter facing the house by 6:00 a.m. the day of your scheduled pickup. Your garbage pickup day will remain the same.
Maybe of most interest, starting a week from today, Saturday, May 5th, the Coldwater Transfer Station will again be open to the public, although from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays only. It’s been closed now for nearly a year.
The City says the garbage pickup changes should really be a seamless transition with little changes to customers. For County residents wishing to recycle they will only be accepting recycling on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon as well. The Transfer Station will no longer be open Monday through Friday for recycling. However, if you have concerns, please feel free to contact the B-P-U Customer Service Department at 279-9531.
For safety purposes, Republic only picks up along one side of the street and then down another. If you see the truck passing your home, you may want to first check to see what side of the street they’re collecting on.
If you have refuse that needs to be disposed of that cannot be bagged, please contact the CBPU to make special arrangements for it. Republic Services will only pick up bagged garbage that fits in the toter.
