LANSING (WTVB) - No clerks in Branch County made the list and for them, it’s a good thing but that’s not the case for 70 other jurisdictions. The state of Michigan, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Director of Elections Christopher Thomas are being sued by the U.S. Department of Justice. According to the suit, absentee ballots were not mailed out on time to the military and overseas voters. These ballots are supposed to reach those who request them at least 45-days prior to an election. The suit alleges that dozens of communities across the state missed this deadline in preparation for next Tuesday's election.
