Gordon Wins Rain Shortened Event At Pocono, Fan KIlled By Lightening

by

Jeff Gordon took the checkered flag at the rain-shortened Pennsylvania 400 on Sunday. Gordon led eight laps under caution before a severe thunderstorm moved over the area. The start of the race was delayed 90 minutes due to rain and was called 62 laps short of its 160-lap distance. Gordon claimed his 86th career win but his Sprint Cup series victory since last September.  Kasey Kahne, Martin Truex Jr., Brad Kesolowski and Tony Stewart rounded out the top-five. Points leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr. had transmission problems and finished 32nd.

A NASCAR fan was killed and nine others were injured when they were struck by lightning after Sunday's race at Pocono. The incident occurred in the parking lot behind the grandstands at the racetrack.

Next up on the schedule is the Sprint Cup series at the Glen Sunday at Watkins Glen International,  and then the following week, it’s the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, August 19th.

Yesterday on the Indy Car circuit, Scott Dixon won the Mid-Ohio Indy on the road course at Lexington, Ohio for the fourth time in six years.
