LANSING (WTVB) - Convicted murderer Doug Stewart’s Attorneys presented his case for a new trial to the State Court of appeals yesterday, challenging whether he got a fair trial in St. Joseph County. Stewart’s estranged wife Venus was last seen outside her parent’s home in Colon Township on April 26th, 2010. Venus Stewart’s body has never been found. One of their arguments has already been appealed and denied, challenging what the defense claims was an inappropriate discussion between Judge Paul Stutesman and Prosecutor John McDonough. There were other technical challenges to the evidence that was presented and the witnesses that were called. The appellate panel will rule in 2 to 4 weeks.
