The U.S. women defeated Japan in the gold medal soccer match 2-to-1. It was a one-two finish for the U.S. in the men’s decatholon while Americans also won the gold and silver in the men’s triple jump. Usain Bolt is once again the gold medal winner in the men’s 200 meters.
A boxer from Michigan, 17-year old Claressa Shields of Flint, won the gold middleweight medal bout. The American women’s water polo team won gold, beating Spain. And the U.S. women’s basketball team advanced to the gold medal game by knocking off Australia. The United States has extended its lead in the overall medal count standings with the Americans collecting 90 total medals through Thursday’s events. The U.S. also is first in gold medals with 39. China is alone in second place with 80 medals, 37 of which are gold…..
