COLDWATER (WTVB) - It’s apparent there’s no quick fix for Branch County government’s troubled employee pension fund system. County Administrator Bud Norman told the CountyBoardof Commissioner’s Finance Committee on Monday that he is continuing to work with their pension attorney that was hired last month and has had meetings with the union representatives. According to Norman, there are unanswered questions and it will take time. Norman said a self-funded transition account has now been established as the county moves toward ending its contract with John Hancock and distributions have been made from the transition account. However, Norman added that some of the retirees are choosing not to accept those payments and their attorneys have had contact with the county. Normantold the Committee those lawyers have been satisfied with the county’s response and that John Hancock’s reaction has been positive. In regards to the County’s spending plan for 2013, Norman said the first draft of next year’s budget will be presented to the Finance Committee at its August 24th meeting when he will give a general overview and the impact reductions will have on the departments.
