COVERT TOWNSHIP (WTVB) - Shocking revelations in a Huffington Post report about conditions inside the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and at the Palisades Nuclear Plant. The website reports that the leak from the tank that shut down the plant earlier this summer, was actually running down the wall of the control room for weeks before they decided to shut down, drain the tank and plug the leak.
NRC Director Greg Jaczko toured the plant on May 31st, and was not informed of the problem, and when he found out about it later, demanded to know why. Commissioner William Ostendorff, a republican appointee, angrily canceled the request, an order that was ignored. Now Ostendorff is under investigation, Jaczko has submitted his resignation because of infighting at the NRC and a new director appointed.
The Huffington Post also reports that Congressman Fred Upton has interceded more than once on behalf of the plant’s owners to limit NRC intervention at Palisades.
