EAST KENTWOOD (WTVB) - A Navy Seal from West Michigan was among the seven American soldiers who died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Thursday. Family members say 27-year old David Warsen, a graduate of East Kentwood high school and Hope College, was one of four Special Forces members who were killed when the Black Hawk UH-60 went down in the southern part of the country. The Taliban is claiming responsibility for the fiery crash, saying their fighters shot down the helicopter. The August death toll for Americans in Afghanistan is now 28. Funeral services were held in Rochester yesterday for a Michigan soldier who died in Afghanistan and then his burial took place at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta in the afternoon. The Body of Sgt. Kyle McClain was escorted across the state by the Patriot Guard and the State Police. McClain was killed and 4 other members of his Kalamazoo based unit, the 1433rd Engineering Company were wounded by an IED while they were on foot patrol in Afghanistan. Flags flew at half staff statewide in his honor yesterday. He was 25.
